Mezcal Chichicapa “Single Village Mezcal”
Hand-crafted in the village of San Baltazar Chichicapa, cradled by low hills in a broad, arid valley. Agave: Espadín. Naturally fermented and twice distilled in wood-fired copper stills. Nose of sweet roasted agave & toasted corn, palate of dried fruit & sweet almond, finish of chocolate & mint. ABV 48.
Founded by Ron Cooper in 1995, Del Maguey Mezcal benefits from deep cultural relationships with Zapotec Mexican Indian producers in remote villages of Oaxaca, Mexico, and their ancient organic processes established over 500 years ago. The mezcal is produced with only two ingredients: the heart of the agave, and 10% pure water added to the fermentation process. Each Single Village Mezcal is made by individual family producers in old-style villages, with each product credited after the village where the liquid was made. Each label is drawn by iconic L.A. artist Ken Price, who coincidentally happened to live next door to Cooper in California in the ‘60s, and the pair became lifelong friends.
