This Trappist, also referred to as the Flemish Burgundy, has a dark amber colour, a stable, strong lacing and a white head. Westvleteren 12 is a masterpiece in its complexity but wonderful in its simplicity. The exquisite smooth taste of caramel and chocolate goes perfectly well with the sweet raisin and nutty notes in the aroma. Together with the firm alcohol percentage, it results in a pleasant full-bodied, long-lasting and warm aftertaste.

Westvleteren 12 is a Belgian Trappist Ale that has consistently been voted the single best tasting beer in the world. All major beer rating sites agree that this is the pinnacle of beers, including: Beer Advocate, Rate Beer and Beer Pal.

Sint-Sixtusabdij Westvleteren

Westvleteren is a brewery founded in 1838 at the Trappist Abbey of Saint Sixtus in Vleteren, Belgium.

The brewery’s three beers have acquired an international reputation for taste and quality; Westvleteren 12 is considered by some to be the best beer in the world. The beers are not brewed to normal commercial demands but are sold in small quantities weekly from the doors of the monastery itself to individual buyers on an advance-order basis.
