Finished in an oak foeder for 5 months and after that, an extra finish for 2 months in smaller oak barrels, this Oude Kriek is characterised by a strong oak presence. The world-famous Danish Stevnsbær cherries form a pleasant, mellow fruitiness that is largely supported by oak and vanilla.
Gentle notes of oak play host to the elegant, clean, and well-pronounced flavour of the world-famous Danish Stevnsbær cherries.
Frederiksdal Oude Kriek is the latest entry in our long-running collaboration with the Geuze geniuses, Brouwerij Boon.
The beer had its conception during Wild Ale Celebration back in 2019, where
Mikkel, Karel and Frank discussed the possibility of making the next
collaborative beer with fruit.
Usually Brouwerij Boon uses the legendary Schaarbeekse cherries for their Kriek or a
cherry sort similar. But this time around Mikkel convinced them to try and
experiment with Frederiksdal cherries from the 2020 harvest.
The beers consist of 70%-80% cherry juice and 30%-20% of Boon’s lambic, which they
normally use for their kriek base. Both versions of the beer spend 6 months in
an oak foeder before half of it was transferred into small red wine barrels.
